MINUTES – MEN’S CLUB MEETING October 12, 2011
The meeting was opened at 6:00 PM with a prayer by Lee Stickdorn. Pizza from Michelle’s, cookies and drinks were served for the meal. The following items were discussed and actions taken:

PECIAL GUESTS – BOY SCOUT TROOP 400
Steve Rotert introduced Scott Smart – Scoutmaster of Troop 400 - and 3 of his Scouts. Troop 400 was one of the organizations given a donation by the Men’s Club. Scott expressed his thanks for the donation and told us our money was used to take all his scouts to summer camp with uniforms. The camp was a week long and is located outside of Lincolnton. Scott then gave us a progress report on the merit badges some of the Scouts had earned. Recently, the Troop hosted a camp with another troop and actually found gold in a creek.
Ray Tarnosky asked if resources could be identified that the Scouts needed today. Scott responded the needs vary according to the skills the Scouts want to pursue. Steve Rotert volunteered to be the conduit for any help needed in the future. Scott also briefly discussed the flag retirement ceremonies they have periodically through the year. There was also a discussion held about the large amount of gang activity in McCormick County. According to local law enforcement, 14 or 15 active gangs have been identified in the county.

Old Business

Golf Outing – Pat Ouellette. Money is still due for two signs. If they are collected, we will gain another $60 dollars to the amounts below. We had 96 players on a beautiful day for golf. A total of 134 people came to dinner. Pat and his team found 28 sponsors for signs and A.R. Charnes and others donated prizes. 2&1/2 teams returned prize money. Catering cost for dinner was $1400. Net income from the event was $2603. Pat and his team held a wonderful event and contributed greatly to our treasury. Thanks and applause from all in attendance.
Community Benefits Process Wrap-up – Steve Rotert reported a meeting is scheduled for November 2 to review processes and charter. Steve will report at next meeting. The committee will have 3 vacancies for next year and are looking for 3 volunteers.
Rectory – Terry O’Reilly was absent, so Rod Wurst gave an update. Inside is basically complete, but rain prevented outside window painting. Total cost was around $50K, but everything is paid and we are debt free. However, Rectory needs a new roof. Parish Council is in the process of getting estimates. Don Bruns & Tom O’Day stated that current roof is less than 10 years old, and suggested we validate that the roof is actually needed. Rod will give this feedback to Terry & the Parish Council
Handrails for the church – Terry O’Reilly was not in attendance, but Rod Wurst stated two options were being discussed. Rails on the side or attached to the Ambo.
